Houses

(A) Model House

House model built: 5x2.5m, 1 floor

Number of people: 1

This building served and serves many temporary purposes during construction of other buildings, either to accommodate people or materials and tools. It also serves long term as accommodation.

(B) Namaraj Bogati

House model built: 10x5m, 2 floors

Number of people: 4

The following photos show both the old house, which was originally 3 floors high, as well as the just built new wooden house.

A library has been set up in this house also, especially for the benefit of children.

(C) Ram Krishna Bogati

House model built: 5x5m, 1 floor

Number of people: 5

This house is of particular interest as it shows most perfectly the typical model of 5x5m which is believed to be most suitable for most families.

(D) Shiva Raj Bogati

House model built: custom size (approx. 4x3m)

Number of people: 4

With some of the extra material available this small sleeping cottage has been set up to provide an earthquake resistant and healthy sleeping environment for this family. Mainly the 8x5cm pillar wood has been provided through this project.

(E) Arjun Rijal

House model built: 5x5m, 1 floor

Number of people: 3

This shows a typical situation in the temporarily set up tin sheet cottages, where water started to leak in the just started raining season and a solution (a dry place to stay) is needed. The house has been completed with outer walls but no further photo was taken.

Earthquake Resistant Construction

Some photos of vital connections show the robustness of this construction style. All these materials (except cement) have been brought from Austria to ensure high quality.

Compensation of Expenses

The compensation of 16960 € to cover all expenses has been provided by Raphael Langerhorst / GRACETECH e.U.

Work hour and other investments

The project was basically conducted by Raphael Langerhorst, amounting to almost 1 year of unpaid time investment, including project management, pre-evaluation phase, arranging material as well as construction phase.

Thanks goes to Willi, Anton, Sepp, Wolfgang who came on their own costs from Austria to help for one week in building the first house.

Thanks goes to Franz Lauber who privded construction wood at very low costs.

Thanks goes to innumberable people in Nepal who helped at many stages of the construction phase, with logistics, with paper work and others issues, without their help this project would not have succeeded.
